Hi! My name is Ariel and for the next 10 months, I will be the English language assistant for ROKO. I come from the land “down under” Melbourne, Australia and I am currently 21 studying my third and final year of biomedicine and the diploma of European Languages at Monash University. My fascination with the German language and culture comes from my German teacher of 8 years, Frau Exton. She was a second mother to me and was always really proud of this country and its people, so I’ve always wanted to experience what it would be like to live here. This exchange program provides me with the perfect opportunity!
So what do I do as a language assistant? I basically accompany teachers to their English classes and help them students with their language skills. I share tips as a native speaker and also share what it is like living in an English speaking country. My goal isn’t to make them perfect English speakers, rather I want to help them feel more confident speaking English and I want to open their worlds to a life in Australia. I myself had to learn English from scratch when I was 7 and I am now currently learning German, so I definitely know what it is like to learn a language in school. As you can probably tell, I really enjoy learning languages!
Otherwise in my spare time, I like being arts and crafty. You might see me crocheting or knitting by the Deggendorf park or the Donau river. If you do, come say hi I love to talk. I’m really looking forward to the next year, I’m sure you will hear from me again soon :).
